What is Choghadiya?

Choghadiya (literally "four ghatikas") is a traditional Gujarati/Rajasthani time-division system that splits the day into 8 equal segments and the night into 8 equal segments (Muhurta Chintamani). Each segment is assigned one of 7 planetary types that cycle in a fixed sequence.

The first Choghadiya of each day is determined by the weekday lord, and the night sequence starts from the planet ruling the 5th hora of that day. Unlike Rahu Kalam (which only marks one inauspicious period), Choghadiya provides a complete quality map of the entire day and night.

Usage tip: For important activities like signing contracts, starting journeys, or conducting ceremonies, choose an Amrit, Shubh, or Labh Choghadiya. Avoid Udveg, Rog, and Kaal unless the activity matches the planet's domain (e.g., medical appointments during Rog).
